Angel Eyes NI:
In Belfast, Angel Eyes NI has been changing lives for children and young people with visual impairments across Northern Ireland. The charity works to ensure that every child has the same opportunities as their peers, providing a wide range of services that include family support, education programs, youth activities, accessible events, and specialist training.
But their work doesn’t stop there. Angel Eyes NI is also at the forefront of innovation, developing Empatheyes, a virtual reality tool that helps people experience what it’s like to live with a visual impairment. This powerful piece of technology raises awareness, builds empathy, and challenges perceptions in a way that words alone often can’t.
Running these programmes, however, requires sustainable funding. Like many charities, Angel Eyes NI relies on a combination of grants, trusts, and community fundraising. Yet one challenge has become impossible to ignore: people simply don’t carry cash the way they used to. Traditional collection buckets at events were no longer enough to keep donations flowing.
To meet this challenge head on, the team introduced PayazGo contactless donation devices at their fundraising events. For supporters, the process couldn’t be simpler — just a quick tap of a card or phone, and the donation is made.
Chief Executive Sarah McCracken has seen first-hand how powerful this small change has been:
“We find it hugely successful and have definitely seen a significant growth in contributions at events. Nobody has cash these days, so it’s a complete no-brainer to add PayazGo. It’s really easy to use, and we’re always surprised at how much is contributed.”
The results speak for themselves. Angel Eyes NI has not only increased the amount raised at events but has also made giving more inclusive. Supporters no longer need to worry about finding change in their pocket — they can contribute instantly, in the way that suits them best.
By embracing technology in both their services and their fundraising, Angel Eyes NI is creating a brighter future for the children and families they serve. The charity continues to welcome donations and volunteers, encouraging the community to get involved and make a difference.
